UN - United Nations
(Headquarters: New York)
(Secretary General: Kofi Annan)
(History: The United Nations assumed the assets of the League of Nations, established in 1920. Woodrow Wilson was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1919 for his leadership in creating the League of Nations. World nations cooperated before on specific matters, like the International Telegraph Union founded in 1865, and the Universal Postal Union in 1874, both agencies of today's UN. As early as in 1899, the first Convention for the Pacific Settlement of International Disputes was adopted at the International Peace Conference in The Hague.)
